Manchester United have reportedly revived their interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite as they prepare for a defensive overhaul ahead of the 2027 summer transfer window.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, 22 October 2026, the Red Devils continue to monitor the England international, who has impressed with his performances for Everton and remains a potential target for several top clubs.
TEAMtalk reports that Everton could demand around €95 million (£80 million) to sanction Branthwaite's departure next year.
The Daily Mail has also reported that the 23-year-old remains on Manchester United's radar as the club assess their defensive options.
Branthwaite recently featured twice for England under Thomas Tuchel during the international break, further strengthening his profile as United consider reinforcements at centre-back.
The defender could emerge as a replacement for Lisandro Martinez, whose future at Old Trafford has become uncertain following reports of tensions with the club's hierarchy.
Manchester United may activate the 12-month extension option in Martinez's contract to protect his transfer value rather than risk losing the Argentine on a free transfer.
There are also question marks over the futures of Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, whose current contracts are due to expire in July 2027. Their situations could increase the need for defensive reinforcements.
United have already invested heavily in their attack and midfield in recent transfer windows, with Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arriving in 2025 before further midfield additions this summer.
The club's next priority is reportedly to strengthen the defence, with left-back also identified as an important position to address after their unsuccessful pursuit of Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall.
Branthwaite's versatility and Premier League experience could make him an attractive option, although Everton's reported valuation would represent a significant financial commitment.
Manchester United could also consider signing another centre-forward next year, depending on whether they can find a buyer for Joshua Zirkzee, who remained at the club despite transfer speculation during the previous window.
