Bayern Munich worried about Vincent Kompany weeks before training ground collapse

According to a report by Daily Mail on Saturday October 24, 2026, Bayern Munich insiders had reportedly raised concerns about Vincent Kompany’s demanding work schedule weeks before the manager collapsed at the club’s training ground.

The 40-year-old was rushed to hospital on Friday after collapsing while watching a training session involving Bayern’s reserve team. The German champions later confirmed that Kompany was in a stable condition but would remain in hospital for further examinations.

The Belgian coach is expected to be absent for weeks as he receives medical care, with Bayern refusing to set a specific date for his return.

According to reports, several people within the club had become concerned about Kompany’s work-life balance, reportedly believing that he was getting too little sleep, eating irregularly, exercising infrequently and consuming excessive amounts of coffee.

The report also suggested that Kompany had been taking on too much work, raising questions about whether his relentless commitment to football was leaving him enough time to rest.

Kompany had previously acknowledged that he failed to listen to his body while battling a viral infection. Speaking after Bayern’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League, he admitted that the illness had eventually forced him to slow down.

The infection reportedly caused complications involving old scar tissue in his hip, leaving him in pain and making it difficult for him to stand for extended periods or climb stairs.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that the manager was stable but stressed that his health remained the club’s priority.

He said Kompany would receive all the time he needed to recover, adding that Bayern would focus on identifying the cause of the problem before determining an appropriate recovery period.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks is expected to oversee the team in Kompany’s absence, including Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against Freiburg.

Danks acknowledged that convincing the Bayern boss to rest had never been easy, describing him as a leader who works extremely hard. He nevertheless emphasised that recovering from the virus was now the most important consideration.

Bayern have also expressed confidence in their existing coaching staff, insisting that there is no need to make changes to their football operations while Kompany recovers.

The former Manchester City captain has enjoyed an impressive spell in Munich since arriving in 2024, winning Bundesliga titles and establishing himself as a central figure in the club’s sporting project.

Bayern currently lead the Bundesliga after six matches, although their European campaign has been less convincing.

For now, however, football has taken a back seat as the club concentrates on Kompany’s recovery. While the reported concerns about his demanding lifestyle have attracted attention, the precise cause of his collapse has not been conclusively established in the information released by Bayern.
