According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Manchester City suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in their Premier League clash at Villa Park.
Aston Villa started the game with confidence and took the lead in the sixth minute through Nicolas Jackson, who finished with his right foot after receiving a pass from John McGinn. The early goal gave the home side a strong start as they looked to put pressure on City's defence and make life difficult for Pep Guardiola's men.
Manchester City tried to respond and created some good chances, but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki stood firm to keep his team in front. Rayan Cherki came close to finding an equaliser in the first half, while Iliman Ndiaye also threatened the City defence, but Villa managed to hold on to their advantage before the break.
City eventually got back into the game seven minutes after the restart when Erling Haaland scored with a header in the 52nd minute, finishing off a cross from Ndiaye. The goal appeared to give the visitors the momentum they needed to take control of the contest and push for a winner.
However, Villa refused to give up and restored their lead in the 60th minute when Jackson scored his second goal of the match, this time finishing with his right foot after a pass from Ibrahim Mbaye. The goal put City under pressure again as Villa defended well and looked dangerous whenever they moved forward.
Despite enjoying more possession, City could not find another equaliser, with Villa goalkeeper Suzuki making important saves to deny their efforts. The home side held on until the final whistle to claim an impressive victory.
Despite the defeat, Manchester City remain top of the Premier League table, although they are now just three points above second-placed Arsenal. Aston Villa, meanwhile, climbed to sixth position with 11 points after their impressive win.
