AVL 2-1 MCI: Match Review and English Premier League Table

According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 24, 2026, Aston Villa secured an impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City in their Premier League encounter on Saturday, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice to give Unai Emery’s side all three points.

The striker opened the scoring in the sixth minute before restoring Villa’s advantage shortly after Erling Haaland had equalised for the visitors.

Villa made an energetic start and took the lead through Jackson, who received a precise pass from John McGinn before driving into the penalty area and firing a powerful shot into the top-left corner. Manchester City responded by enjoying extended periods of possession as they searched for an equaliser.

Iliman Ndiaye came close to drawing City level in the 13th minute, but goalkeeper Zion Suzuki produced an excellent save to deny his effort from outside the box. Rayan Cherki also tested the Villa goalkeeper with a low shot, while Abdukodir Khusanov forced another impressive save with an attempt from distance.

City continued applying pressure, but Villa remained dangerous on the counterattack. Jackson narrowly missed an opportunity in the 19th minute, while Johan Manzambi sent a free-kick over the crossbar later in the first half. Despite their efforts, the hosts maintained their advantage until the interval.

Manchester City found their equaliser seven minutes into the second half. Ndiaye delivered a lofted pass into the penalty area, allowing Haaland to rise above his marker and head the ball into the bottom-left corner from close range.

Villa responded positively and regained the lead in the 60th minute. Jackson received a well-timed pass from a teammate before finishing confidently into the bottom-right corner to complete his brace.

City attempted to find another equaliser, but Josko Gvardiol missed a headed opportunity in the 66th minute, while Jeremy Doku sent an effort narrowly wide. Villa managed the closing stages effectively and held on to claim victory.

The result handed Villa a valuable Premier League win, while Manchester City were left to reflect on missed opportunities after failing to recover from Jackson’s decisive second goal.
