NFO 3-1 MCI: Match Review And Updated English Premier League Table

According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Nottingham Forest ended their five-match winless run in the Premier League with an impressive 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the City Ground.

The result marked City's third consecutive league defeat and dealt another blow to their hopes of challenging for the Premier League title, while Forest secured three crucial points to move out of the relegation zone.

Forest made an excellent start to the encounter and took the lead through Brazilian defender Jair Cunha, who capitalised on a costly mistake by Josko Gvardiol. The City defender lost possession 25 yards from goal, allowing Cunha to advance into the penalty area before calmly sending a left-footed effort into the bottom corner.

The hosts doubled their advantage through Liam Delap, who produced an outstanding finish against his former club. The striker exploited the space behind City's defence, drove forward on the counter-attack and fired past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to put Forest in a commanding position.

Manchester City attempted to reduce the deficit before the interval, with Jeremy Doku creating an opportunity for Enzo Fernandez. However, the Argentine midfielder failed to direct his header on target from close range.

Erling Haaland also came close to finding the net after rounding Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels, but Cunha produced an important goal-line clearance to preserve the home side's two-goal advantage.

City manager Enzo Maresca introduced two substitutes at half-time in an attempt to change the direction of the contest, and his team eventually found a way back into the game.

Rayan Cherki gave the visitors hope when he collected Doku's cutback near the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a powerful left-footed half-volley into the roof of the net.

However, Forest quickly restored their two-goal advantage through Delap, who completed his brace with another impressive counter-attacking move. The forward surged down the left before firing a powerful effort that went in off the far post.

City struggled to produce another response, allowing Forest to secure a memorable victory in front of their home supporters.

The defeat handed Arsenal another advantage in the title race following their victory earlier in the day, while Forest moved out of the Premier League relegation zone.
