Flamingos Face Brazil in U-17 Women’s World Cup Semi-Final

According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos will seek a place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final for the first time when they face Brazil in Wednesday’s semi-final in Morocco.

The Nigerian team reached the last four after edging Venezuela 1-0 in a tense quarter-final on Sunday.

Captain Azeezat Oduntan scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute, after Oluebube Umejiaku was fouled inside the box.

The result marked only the second time Nigeria have reached the semi-finals of the tournament.

Their previous appearance came in 2022, when the team won bronze in India. Coach Akeem Busari’s side now have the chance to go one step further and contest the final.

Brazil also had to work hard to secure a semi-final place. They came from behind to beat China 2-1 in the quarter-finals, after surviving a demanding route through the previous round.

In the round of 16, Brazil and Poland played out a 3-3 draw before the Brazilians prevailed 8-7 in a penalty shootout.

Their resilience in both knockout matches suggests the Flamingos will face a battle against a side accustomed to close contests.

Busari said Nigeria would approach the challenge with focus and ambition. We want to give our best in the next match and show everyone what we can do, he said.

Brazil coach Rilany Silva also acknowledged the Nigerian team’s physical intensity, saying, By the 90th minute, they’ll probably still be running as if it were the fifth.

The encounter pits Nigeria’s disciplined quarter-final performance against a Brazil side that has shown both attacking threat and composure under pressure.

For the Flamingos, converting chances and maintaining concentration could prove crucial, particularly if the match remains close late on.

Oduntan’s late penalty against Venezuela underlined the importance of persistence, while the team’s defensive effort helped preserve the narrow lead.

Against Brazil, Nigeria will need to sustain that determination while managing the demands of another high-stakes knockout fixture.

A victory would take the Flamingos into a historic first final and guarantee them a chance to compete for the title. Defeat would leave them to pursue another third-place finish, as they did four years ago.
