NPFL: Azeez Mohammed Praises Katsina United After Victory Over Sporting Lagos

According to daily Post, Katsina United technical adviser, Azeez Audu Mohammed, has expressed satisfaction with his team's performance following their 2-1 victory over Sporting Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Chanji Boys secured the important victory in their Matchday 11 encounter played at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Katsina United started the match strongly, controlling much of the early proceedings and putting pressure on their visitors. Their impressive first-half performance was rewarded with two goals from Luis Dadong, who gave the home side a comfortable advantage before the break.

Sporting Lagos struggled to contain the hosts during the opening period but returned for the second half with renewed determination. Their efforts eventually produced a goal in the 65th minute when Aliyu Baba found the back of the net.

The goal reduced the deficit and gave Sporting Lagos renewed hope of securing a positive result. However, Katsina United maintained their composure and defended their advantage until the final whistle.

Reacting after the match, Mohammed praised his players for their determination and commitment, describing the victory as an important achievement against a quality opponent.

According to the technical adviser, keeping a clean sheet was not his major concern. Instead, he was more interested in securing all three points against a Sporting Lagos side that had demonstrated its ability to earn valuable results away from home.

Mohammed noted that Sporting Lagos had collected 10 points from 11 matches, making them a difficult opponent to overcome.

He said: "It's not about clean sheet, the important thing is that we won against a quality side. In 11 matches they picked 10 points away. So, it's not a small feat for us to be able to beat them."

The Katsina United coach also commended his players for their overall performance, although he admitted that conceding a goal was an aspect of the game that required attention.

He further assured supporters that the team would continue working hard to improve its performances and achieve better results in the ongoing NPFL campaign.

The 2-1 victory represents an important result for Katsina United as they continue their efforts to establish themselves among the competitive teams in the league.

For Sporting Lagos, the defeat will be disappointing, particularly after Aliyu Baba's second-half goal raised hopes of a possible comeback.

Both teams will now turn their attention to their upcoming league fixtures, with Katsina United hoping to build on the victory and Sporting Lagos seeking an immediate response.
