According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 22, 2026, Xavi Espart is expected to start at right-back for Barcelona against Real Madrid on Sunday after impressing Hansi Flick during the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reports, the 19-year-old has strengthened his chances of featuring in El Clasico, with Jules Kounde unlikely to recover sufficiently to start the encounter at Spotify Camp Nou.

Espart delivered an impressive performance against PSG despite facing difficult opposition. The Barcelona academy graduate helped contain Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and also found the net during the match. His contribution has reportedly convinced Flick to trust him with another important assignment.

The youngster has enjoyed an encouraging season under the German manager. Flick previously admired his performances at left-back, where he has competed with established options such as Joao Cancelo and Alejandro Balde. However, his recent display on the opposite flank has further strengthened his position.

Espart demonstrated defensive discipline and attacking quality against PSG. Although Real Madrid present a different challenge, his performance could earn him another opportunity to prove himself.
