Barcelona considering making offer to sign Man United star

According to a report by Barca Blaugranes on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Barcelona are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez ahead of the summer 2027 transfer window.

Spanish outlet El Desmarque claims the La Liga club are keeping a close eye on the Argentine’s contractual situation as they assess potential defensive reinforcements.

Martinez’s current deal with Manchester United is reportedly due to expire next summer. If the club decide against triggering their extension option, Barcelona could have an opportunity to recruit the centre-back on a free transfer.

The report also suggests that Barcelona could make an initial proposal before the end of 2026. If Martinez’s contract situation remains unresolved, he could be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs from January, potentially bringing his future into sharper focus.

Barcelona are believed to value the 28-year-old’s experience and his ability to operate as a left-footed defender. His profile could offer the Catalan side another option in defence as they prepare for the 2027–28 season.

Since arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax in 2022, Martinez has become an important member of Manchester United’s defensive unit. However, the club’s challenging campaign and uncertainty over his long-term future have fuelled speculation about a possible departure.

The defender has also recently attracted attention following reports that he criticised Manchester United’s hierarchy after their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. Nevertheless, those reported comments do not necessarily indicate that he intends to leave the club.

United still have the option of extending Martinez’s contract by another year, a decision that could significantly affect Barcelona’s pursuit. It also remains uncertain whether the Argentina international would consider moving away from the Premier League.

For now, Barcelona’s interest has not progressed beyond reported speculation, with no official bid or agreement confirmed. Martinez’s contractual situation is likely to play a key role in shaping his future in the months ahead.
