According to a report by Metro on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Barcelona are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Arsenal defender Piero Hincapié as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the January transfer window.
The Spanish giants are keen to improve their defensive options after encountering several problems at the back during the opening months of the season. Reports suggest that Barcelona have already initiated discussions over a possible move for the 24-year-old Ecuadorian international, who is believed to be viewed by manager Hansi Flick as a suitable addition to his team.
Hincapié has emerged as an attractive target because of his ability to operate both as a central defender and at left-back. His versatility, combined with his defensive qualities, makes him an appealing option for Flick as he looks to add more strength and depth to Barcelona's backline.
The former Bayer Leverkusen defender played an important role for Arsenal last season, making 39 appearances across all competitions. However, his situation at the Emirates Stadium has changed significantly this campaign, with the Ecuadorian managing just 46 minutes of Premier League football.
Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhães have largely been preferred in Arsenal's defensive setup, while minor fitness concerns have also contributed to Hincapié's limited opportunities.
Barcelona reportedly believe the defender could consider a move to Spain, particularly if the opportunity offers him more consistent first-team football. However, convincing Arsenal to part ways with him in January could prove challenging.
The Gunners are believed to value Hincapié at approximately £35 million, a figure Barcelona would need to consider before making a formal approach. Furthermore, Mikel Arteta is reportedly unwilling to lose important members of his squad midway through the season, especially with Arsenal competing on multiple fronts.
Arsenal are determined to maintain enough defensive depth for the second half of the campaign, meaning Barcelona could face significant resistance in their attempts to complete the deal.
Nevertheless, the Catalan club are understood to be exploring different payment structures and potential offers in the hope of persuading Arsenal to sanction the defender's departure during the January transfer window.
For now, Barcelona's interest in Hincapié remains a developing transfer situation, with Arsenal's willingness to negotiate expected to play a decisive role in determining whether the Ecuadorian international makes a move to the Camp Nou.
