Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler responds to Man Utd interest and sends message to Michael Carrick

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has reaffirmed his commitment to the club amid reports linking him with Manchester United, where Michael Carrick faces increasing pressure following a poor run of results.

According to a report by Metro on Friday, October 23, 2026, Hurzeler is among the candidates being considered by United as the club assess possible replacements for Carrick.

Manchester United have gone seven games without a win, raising concerns about Carrick's future at Old Trafford.

The former midfielder is expected to remain in charge for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Bournemouth, although the club are reportedly exploring alternative options.

Hurzeler has attracted attention following Brighton's impressive start to the campaign. The Seagulls sit third in the Premier League table and have recorded a victory over reigning champions Arsenal, while also eliminating Manchester United from the Carabao Cup.

However, the Brighton manager has dismissed suggestions that he is distracted by speculation over his future, insisting that his priority remains his current role.

"I'm fully focused on my job here," Hurzeler told reporters on Friday ahead of Brighton's trip to Liverpool. "I've got no time to think about these rumours because we play every three days."

The German also expressed respect for Carrick, praising his character and work at Manchester United.

Hurzeler signed a new long-term contract with Brighton in May, keeping him at the club until 2029. The agreement puts the Seagulls in a strong position should United decide to pursue him.

The 33-year-old explained that he remains motivated by Brighton's progress and believes there is still significant room for improvement within the squad.

He also highlighted the importance of the relationships he has developed with his players and staff, suggesting that he has no intention of abandoning the project prematurely.

"We have built this [together] over the years. We've had good periods, we've had bad periods. To build these connections you need time. You don't take these things for granted," he said.
