According to a report by Sports Mole published on November 1, 2026, the 19-year-old has an opportunity to surpass Kylian Mbappe and become the highest-scoring teenager in the history of the competition.

Yamal has already registered 13 Champions League goals before reaching the age of 20, matching the record previously established by Mbappe. However, another goal against Aston Villa would allow the Barcelona attacker to move ahead of the French international and claim the record outright.

The Spanish youngster approaches the important fixture in excellent form after delivering an impressive performance in Barcelona's 6-1 victory over Alaves in La Liga on Saturday. Yamal scored twice in that encounter, further demonstrating his attacking qualities and importance to manager Hansi Flick's plans.

Flick is expected to maintain Yamal in his preferred position on the right wing, with Fermin Lopez and Raphinha also likely to feature in the attacking department. Rodri could also return to the starting midfield alongside Pedri after missing the previous match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona are equally expected to make some changes to their defensive arrangement. Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi are tipped to partner in central defence, while Alejandro Balde could occupy the left-back position as Flick considers his options ahead of the European encounter.

The Catalan giants will be particularly determined to secure a positive result following their disappointing 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in their previous Champions League appearance. That loss brought their winning start in the competition to an end and increased the importance of their upcoming fixture.

However, Aston Villa will not be easy opponents, having recorded three victories from their opening three matches in the tournament. Their impressive start suggests Barcelona must produce a disciplined performance to secure all three points.

Beyond the importance of the result, Yamal's opportunity to establish a new Champions League record provides additional motivation. Scoring against Aston Villa would place him above Mbappe in the competition's teenage scoring rankings while giving Barcelona a significant boost as they attempt to rebuild their European campaign.
