Garnacho faces transfer as Aston Villa prepare to freeze out winger to avoid permanent buy

According to a report by GOAL on Saturday October 24, 2026, Alejandro Garnacho faces an uncertain future at Aston Villa, with the Premier League club considering limiting his playing time to avoid triggering a mandatory purchase clause in his loan agreement with Chelsea.

The Argentine winger has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Villa Park on a season-long loan, leaving manager Unai Emery unconvinced by his performances.

According to reports, Villa are prepared to restrict Garnacho's involvement for the remainder of the campaign unless he improves significantly in the coming weeks.

The reported decision is linked to a £43 million obligation to buy included in his loan agreement, which would become mandatory once the winger reaches a specific number of appearances.

Garnacho has reportedly managed just 31 minutes of competitive action this season, raising questions about his role in Emery's plans and his prospects of securing a permanent move to the Midlands.

The 22-year-old joined Chelsea from Manchester United in August 2025 for a reported £40 million fee after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. He signed a seven-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club, running until 2032.

Although Garnacho registered 12 goal involvements across all competitions during his first season at Chelsea, he was allowed to leave on loan after just one campaign in west London.

His struggles for regular football have continued at Villa, where he has reportedly been left out of consecutive Premier League matchday squads. Despite scoring in a friendly against Sevilla during the recent international break, he has been unable to establish himself in Emery's plans.

The report also draws comparisons with Harvey Elliott's loan spell at Aston Villa last season, when the club reportedly limited his involvement to avoid triggering a mandatory purchase agreement.

Villa's approach would leave Garnacho with little time on the pitch to prove his value, potentially complicating his efforts to secure a long-term future away from Chelsea.

For the Argentine international, the immediate priority will be convincing Emery that he deserves another opportunity. Improved performances in training could help him return to contention, although his path back into the team remains uncertain.
