Samson Adamu, a Nigerian football administrator, has been confirmed as general secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following months in an acting role. The CAF Executive Committee approved his appointment after running a formal recruitment process, with the announcement made on Sunday.

Adamu stepped into the acting position when Veron Mosengo-Omba resigned from the role. CAF president Patrice Motsepe said the appointment came after a thorough search in which the job was advertised widely and multiple candidates were interviewed.

"Adamu brings extensive experience in African football administration, having joined CAF in 2018 as director of competitions before subsequently serving as director of tournaments and events," Motsepe said. "He has played a leading role in the delivery of several major continental competitions, including CAF's flagship tournament, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations."

Since 2018, Adamu has worked across two key departments at CAF, building expertise in organising and running major continental football competitions. He holds a FIFA Master qualification in international management, law and humanities of sport, strengthening his credentials for the role.

As general secretary, Adamu will manage CAF's daily operations and drive forward the organisation's strategic goals. He's the son of Amos Adamu, who previously headed the Ministry of Sports' sports directorate and sat on FIFA's executive committee.

His appointment continues a tradition of accomplished leaders in the position, including members of Egypt's prominent Fahmy family. The 42-year-old takes the helm at a crucial time for African football governance.
