Rice rescues Arsenal as Man Utd suffer 4-1 defeat

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice scored an 82nd-minute equaliser to earn his side a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

It was reported that Manchester United suffered a 4-1 defeat against Como in Italy on the same night.

Arsenal took the lead in the 25th minute when Eberechi Eze connected with Martin Odegaard’s long pass and fired past Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Bayern restored parity in the 35th minute when Harry Kane released Alphonso Davies with a through pass from midfield, allowing the Canadian to beat David Raya.

Kane put the hosts ahead in the 61st minute from the penalty spot after Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was adjudged to have handled his shot with a raised hand.

Rice, however, rescued Arsenal in the 82nd minute after exchanging passes with Victor Gyokeres before slotting home the equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw.

In Italy, Manchester United’s struggles continued as Como handed the English side a heavy 4-1 defeat.

Nico Paz opened the scoring for Como inside two minutes with a curling effort from the edge of the box before setting up Anastasios Douvikas for the hosts’ second goal four minutes after the break.

Paz scored his second goal and Como’s third after beating Carlos Baleba before directing a left-footed finish into the far corner.

Jacob Ramon added Como’s fourth goal in the 76th minute with a header, while Joshua Zirkzee scored a consolation goal for Manchester United in stoppage time.

Reacting to the defeat, United captain Bruno Fernandes expressed reservations about manager Michael Carrick’s tactical approach, particularly the decision not to press Como aggressively.

“Sometimes, when you give space to these teams, they gain confidence. That is for the manager and staff to assess, not me.

“Sometimes, you have to be braver under pressure, take the risk of pressing high and make them uncomfortable,” Fernandes said.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid thrashed RB Leipzig 4-1, with goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande, while Tidiam Gomis scored Leipzig’s only goal.

In France, Lille lost 4-2 to Galatasaray, with Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scoring the Turkish side’s final goal against his former club.

Osimhen was subsequently named Player of the Match for his performance.

In other results, Inter Milan edged Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0, Aston Villa defeated Viking Stavanger 3-1, and Real Betis beat Feyenoord 1-0.

LASK also recorded a surprise 3-2 victory over Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Real Betis led the standings, having recorded three victories from their opening three matches to maintain perfect starts to their Champions League campaigns.
