The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade. Philip Shaibu, has urged Head Coach of the Flamingoes, Hakeem Busari, to bring home the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy when Nigeria face Japan in the final on Saturday.
Shaibu said the match presents a defining moment for Nigeria to claim its first title at the tournament.
The NIS boss expressed strong confidence in Busari’s technical competence, describing him as a product of the institute.
He recalled that Busari obtained his initial coaching qualification from the NIS, Lagos, in 1999.
According to Shaibu, the coach later returned to complete the NIS Higher Programmes between 2003 and 2006, and was issued his final coaching certificates in October, 2006.
“As an alumnus of the NIS, I believe in Coach Busari’s ability and pedigree,” Shaibu stated.
“He has been properly trained and groomed here, and I have no doubt that he has what it takes to lead the Flamingoes to victory.”
The DG noted that the institute remains proud of Busari’s rise and contribution to national football development.
Shaibu added that history beckons on the Flamingoes and their technical crew in the final against Japan.
He described the encounter as an opportunity for Nigeria to etch its name in gold on the global stage and to inspire the next generation of female footballers in the country.
The NIS DG also called on Nigerians to rally round the team and give them maximum support ahead of the final.
He urged citizens to unite behind the Flamingoes and pray for their success as they seek to win the ultimate prize at the U-17 Women’s World Cup for the nation.
