Real Madrid secured their third consecutive Champions League victory with a commanding 4-1 win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.
Kylian Mbappé and Yan Diomande both found the net for José Mourinho’s side, who looked in fine form ahead of the upcoming La Liga Clasico against Barcelona.
Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock late in a tightly contested first half, pouncing from close range after Leipzig keeper Maarten Vandevoordt failed to clear a shot from Arda Güler. Madrid doubled their advantage just minutes after the restart, as Güler held off a defender to convert after a clever assist from Mbappé, who nodded Jude Bellingham’s cross back across goal.
Mbappé then curled in Madrid’s third following a slick exchange with Diomande, before Leipzig pulled one back through Tidiam Gomis after a lapse in the Madrid defense. There would be no comeback for the German visitors, however, as Diomande capped off the evening with a spectacular volley from Brahim Díaz’s cross, marking his third goal in four matches.
The result gives Madrid their fourth straight win in all competitions and bolsters their confidence after a challenging domestic start. Mourinho’s tactical adjustments paid dividends, with Vinícius Júnior starting on the left despite his league suspension, and Bernardo Silva and Eduardo Camavinga bolstering the midfield. Federico Valverde once again filled in at right-back, replicating his role from the recent win over Sevilla.
While Leipzig threatened early, forcing a sharp save from Thibaut Courtois, Madrid’s quality ultimately shone through, maintaining their perfect record in Europe. In contrast, rivals Barcelona stumbled midweek with a defeat at Paris Saint-Germain, making Madrid’s European form stand out even more as they prepare for Sunday’s high-profile clash.
