Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has reached the landmark 100-goal milestone in his professional career after coming off the bench to propel Ajax to a 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
Introduced in the 66th minute, Arokodare broke the deadlock in the 87th minute with a crucial strike before providing the assist for Abdellah Ouazane’s stoppage-time goal to seal the victory.
Celebrating the achievement on social media, Arokodare expressed gratitude to God and the supporters who have anchored his rise across European football.
“100 career goals. Grateful for this journey I am on and the path that God has paved for me. It is Him and all the people along the way who have got me here, and for that I am thankful. The journey continues. God is the greatest,” he wrote.
Arokodare’s route to the century mark includes 22 goals for Latvian side Valmiera FC, 21 during his spell with French club Amiens SC, and 41 for Belgian outfit KRC Genk. He added six goals at Wolverhampton Wanderers and two for Nigeria at international level before bringing his tally to eight goals for Ajax to reach the century mark.
Addressing his future after the match, Arokodare confirmed his interest in extending his spell in the Netherlands should Ajax activate the option to buy clause in his loan deal from Wolves.
“Of course, I’m open to it. I like it here, I love it here. The people are amazing, the fans are amazing, the team is amazing, the club is amazing,” Arokodare said.
