Juventus, In My Whole Career, It Is The Only Club Where I Could Say I Wasn’t Happy Playing" Oliseh

According to a video posted on Global Football Insight YouTube channel on Friday October 23, 2026, former Super Eagles player Sunday Oliseh said he asked to leave Juventus after about three months at the club. He said it was the only one of the eight clubs he played for where he was unhappy. He spoke about the period in an interview on the channel’s podcast.

Oliseh said that at most of his clubs he ended up in a leadership role because of his position as a central defensive midfielder. He said that from that position he could see the back line and had to tell teammates where to stand. He added that he did a lot of mopping up for the team by winning the ball, so coaches always asked him to speak.

In his words, Sunday Oliseh said, “The only club where I didn’t get that role was at Juventus. And funny enough, in my whole career, it is the only club where I could say I wasn’t happy, that I didn’t like playing.

"I barely played three months and I had already put in a request for a transfer to leave. In the whole eight clubs I played, that was the only one. So it’s just like that,” he said.

Asked why he did not enjoy his time there, Oliseh said it was the wrong time to go and the mentality of the club did not suit him. He said it was a great club and, at that time, was like the Real Madrid of world football. He said the team had top star players.

He recalled a teammate there who was also unhappy. He said the player signed his contract in training camp and left soon after for Arsenal, stopping by his room to say goodbye. Oliseh said the player’s brother had brought his Porsche from Torino, and the player drove straight to France without returning for his things.

Oliseh said he did not understand the rush at the time but understood it some months later. He said, “little did I know that I will be in the same situation some months after.” He added that he still learned many things during his time there.
