Mohamed Bachir Belloumi making early Premier League impact with Hull City

Mohamed Bachir Belloumi has made an impressive start to life in the Premier League, leading all players in the measured group for both successful dribbles and dribble success rate this season.

The Algeria winger, 24, has completed 19 of his 29 attempted dribbles, giving him a success rate of 65.5%.

The comparison covers players who have attempted at least 15 dribbles in the Premier League this season. Belloumi is ahead of Savinho, who has completed 18, with Mohammed Kudus on 17 and Julio Enciso on 16. Jeremy Doku and Iliman Ndiaye have each recorded 15 successful dribbles.

Omar Marmoush, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers are also below Belloumi in the standings.

The figures underline the qualities he showed in Portugal and later in the Championship. Belloumi has the ability to beat his direct opponent and immediately create an opening for his team.

That has been particularly notable given the demands of the Premier League, where space disappears quickly, physical contests are constant and mistakes in possession can be punished. Belloumi has retained his willingness to take on defenders while also producing an end result.

His contribution has extended beyond eye-catching individual moments. After eight matches, he has scored three goals and provided two assists for Hull City.

Belloumi’s double against Chelsea was the standout performance, while he also scored against Everton. His five direct goal contributions have come in 600 minutes, making him both Hull City’s leading league scorer and their leading assist-maker.

His early development has been marked by a growing understanding of when to dribble, combine with team-mates or finish an attack. His runs at defenders are increasingly serving a clear purpose rather than simply adding flair to an otherwise routine move.

That combination of technique and output will encourage Algeria. The national team has regularly produced talented wide players, although not all of them have turned their ability in one-on-one situations into consistent goals and assists.

Belloumi has carried his club form into international football. He scored twice in his first three appearances under Brahim Hemdani and has emerged as one of the most positive features of the new cycle.

He will not, however, be solely responsible for replacing Riyad Mahrez. Anis Hadj Moussa remains ahead in terms of European experience and also offers significant attacking threat, while Fares Ghedjemis is competing strongly after his performances in Italy.

The three wingers are pushing one another to maintain high standards at club level, giving Hemdani a group of players who can develop together and raise each other’s level. That represents a change for Algeria, whose options in the position had been a concern only a few months ago.

Comparisons with his father, Lakhdar Belloumi, remain premature. Mohamed Bachir Belloumi is establishing his own career, and greater consistency alongside his dribbling, goals and assists could take him further than expected.
