Barcelona Face La Liga Investigation After Alleged Assault On Eduardo Camavinga

The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee is set to examine reports of a spectator targeting the Real Madrid midfielder during El Clasico, potentially exposing Barcelona to sanctions.

Barcelona Face La Liga Investigation After Alleged Assault On Eduardo Camavinga

Barcelona could face disciplinary action following disturbing scenes during their El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Sunday.

The incident reportedly occurred after Kylian Mbappe scored the decisive goal, following impressive build-up play involving Eduardo Camavinga.

As Madrid’s players celebrated near the home supporters, tensions escalated.

A spectator allegedly leaned over the barriers and swung a flagpole towards the French midfielder.

Camavinga’s teammates immediately intervened, pulling him away from the touchline to prevent further contact with the crowd.

Water bottles and other objects were also reportedly thrown from the stands, although none struck the Madrid star.

The disturbances prompted a stadium announcement and temporarily interrupted proceedings.

La Liga Refers Incident To Disciplinary Committee

Referee Juan Martinez Munuera documented the alleged flagpole incident and thrown objects in his post-match report, providing grounds for further investigation.

According to The Athletic, as reported by Goal, La Liga intends to refer the matter to the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee. Authorities are expected to examine stadium footage and broadcast recordings to identify those responsible before determining any sanctions.

Barcelona could face fines or partial stadium closures if disciplinary breaches are established, although the outcome remains uncertain.

The controversy adds to a difficult period for the Catalan club, following their reported Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and their latest domestic setback against their fiercest rivals.

Real Madrid’s victory ended Barcelona’s nine-match winning start to the league campaign and reduced the gap between the teams at the top of the standings to three points.

While the investigation continues, Barcelona must balance their on-field ambitions with the possibility of disciplinary consequences. The club will hope authorities can identify those involved and determine responsibility without further disruption to their season.
