Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen ended his Champions League goal drought on Wednesday as Galatasaray came from behind to beat Lille 4-2 in northern France for their first win of the campaign.
Osimhen scored against his former club just after the hour mark, finishing off a swift counter-attack to seal the victory. It was his first goal in the competition since February.
Galatasaray were looking to bounce back from a 4-1 home defeat by Barcelona last week. They took the lead after just 66 seconds when Yunus Akgun pounced on a poor header by Lille defender Alexsandro and finished high into the net.
Lille levelled in the seventh minute through Soriba Diaoune, who ran onto a through-ball from Alexsandro, rounded goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and passed into the unguarded net.
Galatasaray were awarded a penalty midway through the first half after Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer appeared to bring down Osimhen, but a Video Assistant Referee review showed that Ozer had won the ball.
Diaoune put Lille ahead in the 39th minute with a reactive finish after a save. However, poor marking allowed Galatasaray to draw level a minute before the break, with Aleksey Batrakov heading in unmarked from a Roland Sallai cross.

Suspect defending again played a part in the visitors’ third goal, seven minutes into the second half. Lucas Torreira’s near-post header from a corner took a final touch off Ozer and went in. Osimhen then added the fourth.
Ahead of the game, Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti had warned that his team had to work collectively to contain the Nigerian, but they failed.
Osimhen played for Lille in the 2019/20 season and scored 18 goals in 38 appearances before joining Napoli in 2020. He has now scored seven goals and provided three assists for Galatasaray this season.
Lille have now lost both of their home Champions League matches this season from winning positions and remain without a point. They travel to Norway to face Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday, November 3. Galatasaray will host Stuttgart on the same day.
