According to a post shared on his official Instagram account on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has expressed concern over an incident at the hospital he built in Imo State, calling attention to the need to protect patients and healthcare workers.
Emenike explained that he established the medical facility to give back to his community after representing Nigeria on the international stage and winning the Africa Cup of Nations with the national team.
The former Nigerian international said his investment was aimed at improving access to healthcare in his home state and providing residents with medical services, comfort and hope.
He added that reports of the incident were particularly distressing because the hospital was built to serve the public and should remain a secure environment for patients seeking treatment and the medical personnel caring for them.
“A place built to care for people should never become a place where patients are afraid and staff are left feeling unsafe,” Emenike wrote.
The former striker called for the hospital community to receive the necessary protection and support, stressing that the people of Imo State deserved safety and continued investment in their welfare.
He also emphasised that hospitals should remain places where people can receive treatment and find hope, rather than become environments where patients and healthcare workers feel threatened.
However, the statement did not provide specific details about the incident or explain the circumstances surrounding what reportedly happened at the facility.
Emenike remains a notable member of Nigeria’s squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. According to BBC Sport, he finished the tournament as a joint-top scorer with four goals as the Super Eagles secured the continental title.
His achievements with the national team and his investment in healthcare in his home state demonstrate his contributions to Nigeria beyond his football career.
