Burahya County are champions of the 2026 Tooro Kingdom MTN Amasaza Cup after edging Mwenge South 3-0 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in normal time at Kichwamba Technical College playground on Saturday.

In a final played before thousands of fans who braved heavy rain, Burahya kept their composure from the spot to secure their second title, having first lifted the trophy in 2024.

The contest was settled from 12 yards after the two sides could not be separated in regulation time. Burahya took the lead early in the second half, but Mwenge South fought back, with Ssetengo Derick scoring late to force a shootout.

Burahya converted three penalties, while Mwenge South failed to score from any of their three attempts, handing the championship to Burahya in emphatic fashion.

The victory earned Burahya UGX 15 million, while Mwenge South took home UGX 9 million as runners-up.

Fort Portal County secured third place after defeating Kitagwenda 2-1 in the third-place playoff. The result earned Fort Portal UGX 6 million, while Kitagwenda received UGX 4 million.

The football competition brought together teams representing all nine counties of Tooro Kingdom, providing a platform for young players to compete and showcase their talent.

Mwenge South had better fortune in the netball competition, defeating Kitagwenda to lift the title and claim UGX 7 million. Kitagwenda received UGX 4 million as runners-up.

The final was graced by the Tooro Kingdom King, Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, who said discussions with MTN, the tournament’s main sponsor, were ongoing to sustain support for the competition and increase funding to introduce additional sporting disciplines.

The King also urged young people to shun drug abuse and warned against early pregnancies among girls.

The tournament continues to provide a platform for sporting competition, unity and talent development across Tooro Kingdom, with Burahya now adding a second championship to their record after their 2024 triumph.
