Lillestrøm, Norway — Real Sociedad produced a ruthless attacking display to defeat Lillestrøm 6-0 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, 22 October 2026, recording their first victory of this season’s competition.
Sergio Gómez and Luka Sučić both scored twice, while Orri Óskarsson and Arsen Zakharyan added second-half goals to complete a memorable away performance at Åråsen Stadion.
Captain Mikel Oyarzabal was instrumental in the victory, providing three assists in the first half as the Spanish side established a commanding lead before the interval.
The result matched Real Sociedad’s biggest European victory, previously achieved against Vardar in 2017, according to the club.
Lillestrøm began positively, with Thomas Olsen shooting narrowly wide inside the opening minute. Yaw Paintsil also threatened, but the Norwegian side failed to convert their early opportunities.
Real Sociedad punished them in the 25th minute when Oyarzabal picked out Gómez, who fired into the top corner to give the visitors the lead.
Two minutes later, the same combination produced another goal. Oyarzabal delivered the ball into Gómez’s path, and the midfielder finished with his right foot to double Sociedad’s advantage.
The visitors continued to exploit gaps in the home defence, and Oyarzabal completed his remarkable first-half contribution by setting up Sučić in the 33rd minute. The Croatian midfielder finished with his left foot to make it 3-0.
Sociedad went into half-time firmly in control after turning Lillestrøm’s promising start into a one-sided contest.
The hosts had an opportunity to revive the contest shortly after the restart when Jon Martín fouled Gustav Nyheim inside the penalty area.
Olsen stepped forward to take the penalty, but goalkeeper Unai Marrero guessed correctly and saved the effort, preserving Sociedad’s three-goal advantage.
Lillestrøm continued to search for a response. Olsen headed narrowly wide, while Yildren Ibrahimaj struck the crossbar with a long-range attempt.
Those missed opportunities proved costly as Sociedad regained control and extended their lead.
Gonçalo Guedes provided the assist for substitute Óskarsson, who tapped home in the 65th minute to make it 4-0.
Sučić then scored his second goal of the evening in the 72nd minute, calmly finishing inside the penalty area after the ball fell into his path.
There was still time for substitute Zakharyan to add a sixth in the 80th minute, firing a left-footed effort from the edge of the box to cap an outstanding team performance.
The six goals reflected Sociedad’s clinical finishing after the opening stages, while Marrero’s penalty save ensured the visitors kept a clean sheet.
The emphatic win ended Sociedad’s four-match winless run in the Europa League, during which they had recorded two draws and two defeats.
It also extended their unbeaten away run across all competitions to five matches, with four victories and one draw.
For Lillestrøm, the defeat ended a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions. The Norwegian side remained without a victory in the Europa League league phase, having recorded one draw and two defeats.
Gómez was named Flashscore’s Man of the Match after his two goals helped set the tone for Sociedad’s dominant performance.
