Liverpool lineup vs Crystal Palace predicted as Trey Nyoni and Dominik Szoboszlai decisions made

Liverpool heads to Crystal Palace in the Premier League later, with Andoni Iraola facing some big calls as he looks to get his side back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats

Trey Nyoni and Dominik Szoboszlai could both be battling for a place in Liverpool's team against Crystal Palace

While there have been encouraging signs from Liverpool under Andoni Iraola this season, the Reds could certainly do with getting back to winning ways against Crystal Palace later.

We should be a long, long way off getting worried despite the Reds suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time under their new head coach. That hasn’t stopped some of the more vocal supporters online from getting carried away though.

Wednesday’s defeat to Fenerbahce was certainly a disappointment, especially after leading twice in the game, but it’s certainly not grounds to completely write the season off already. A win at Selhurst Park feels like it’s needed though.

If nothing else, all doesn’t look well at Palace - so often Liverpool’s tormentor last season - so dropping points would be seen as a major opportunity missed. On top of that, you don’t want to be stewing on another negative result for the next couple of weeks during the international break.

Having made five changes against Fenerbahce, we’ll likely see more today, with some obvious names to return to the fold.

There may be some doubts creeping in about Alisson Becker after what was a poor performance by his very high standards in midweek. Mistakes are becoming a little too frequent with the Brazilian at the moment, but there can’t be much doubt that he retains the No.1 spot in goal - he needs to improve though.

In front of him, it feels like the first-choice back four is pretty much set in stone now. Ronald Araujo and Milos Kerkez should come back into the side to sit either side of Jeremy Jacquet and Virgil van Dijk.

The big question mark comes in midfield. Ryan Gravenberch looks as though he may miss out again through injury, while Alexis Mac Allister has been the top performer in that area of the pitch so far, so who starts alongside him?

It feels odd to suggest that Dominik Szoboszlai’s place might be in doubt, considering what he produced last season, but Trey Nyoni’s performances can’t be ignored. The 19-year-old deserves another chance, so he gets the nod.

There is still a chance that Szoboszlai could play in the more advanced role, but having been named on the bench in Turkiye, it feels like Florian Wirtz will come back into the side. He’s certainly not safe in that role though.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Either side of the German international, Bradley Barcola could do with bouncing back immediately after an underwhelming showing up front against Fenerbahce, and hopefully moving back out onto the wing will help him.

You could make a case for any number of combinations on the flanks, and it would be hard to argue against either Victor Munoz or Rio Ngumoha starting today. Having both done so in midweek though, you’d imagine Cody Gakpo might come back into the side.

Up front is perhaps the easiest choice of all. Alexander Isak has firmly found his scoring touch, and hopefully he has another goal or two in him before the international break.

Liverpool predicted line-up vs Crystal Palace: Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Nyoni, Mac Allister; Ngumoha, Wirtz, Barcola; Isak.
