According to a report by FIFA.com on Saturday, November 7, 2926, Nigeria’s forward, Oluebube Umejiaku, has won her second Player of the Match award at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after helping the Flamingos defeat Japan 2-1 in Saturday’s final to become world champions.
The Heartland Queens forward was recognized for her impressive performance in the final, where she scored Nigeria’s second goal in the 47th minute to put the Flamingos 2-0 ahead against their Japanese opponents.
Her goal proved crucial as Nigeria held on to secure a 2-1 victory, despite Japan reducing the deficit through Fuki Ito in the 80th minute.
Umejiaku’s latest individual recognition marks her second Player of the Match award at the tournament, having previously received the honour following Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Mexico in the Round of 16 on October 29.
In that encounter, she opened the scoring for Nigeria before Mary Dunstan added the second goal, helping the Flamingos advance to the quarter-finals.
The young forward has therefore played an important role in Nigeria’s historic campaign, delivering decisive contributions at crucial stages of the competition.
Umejiaku’s achievement also comes against the backdrop of an impressive collective campaign by the Flamingos.
According to FIFA’s pre-final tournament statistics, Nigeria recorded 113 attempts on goal, with eight different players finding the net during their journey to the final.
The Heartland Queens forward was among four Nigerian players who had scored twice before the championship match.
Her latest achievement comes as a fitting reward for her efforts, having helped Nigeria secure their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title and become the first African nation to win the competition.
Umejiaku’s performances in Morocco further underline her growing importance to the Flamingos and highlight the quality of young female footballers emerging from Nigeria.
