City slipped to a second successive Premier League defeat at home to Brighton
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca recognises his side must cut out the individual errors.
City suffered a second successive Premier League defeat on Saturday as Brighton claimed a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.
Yasin Ayari’s winning goal came after Matheus Nunes miskicked attempting to clear a cross and the ball rebounded into his path.
It followed costly errors from Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marc Guehi in last week’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Maresca said: “Sometimes it happens. Unfortunately it is happening for our players, but I think it is part of the game, part of football. In the last two or three games it has happened many times against us.
“We need to analyse and understand what we can do better and try to move on.”
The last two games have taken the shine off what had been a superb start for Maresca at City, with his side having won their opening seven league games of the campaign.
“For sure we are not happy,” the Italian said. “The players, me, the coaching staff, the club – no-one is happy when we lose games at all, for sure.
“But we were aware we were not going to win all the games, so these kind of moments arrive. We just need to try to improve things, move on and try to win games as soon as possible.”
Ayari’s 11th-minute strike ensured Brighton delivered on their manager Fabian Hurzeler’s stated aim to avenge their defeat to City in the Carabao Cup.
It was also a sweet moment for the Swede after he missed from the spot in the decisive penalty shoot-out in last Wednesday’s tie.
But the visitors needed to hang on as City dominated the rest of the contest. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made a number of good saves, including tipping one effort from Iliman Ndiaye on to the woodwork.
City midfielder Elliot Anderson told the club’s website: “We had so many chances and on another day we put them away and we win the game. It’s unlucky, to be honest.
“It wasn’t for a lack of fight and commitment. We gave everything. We were on top for large periods of the game and it looked very promising to get a goal, but it just didn’t come.”
City now travel to Germany to face Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Anderson said: “We win together, we lose together. We’ve got to improve together as well and we’ll look to do that in the next few days in the Champions League.”
