Venezuela head coach Dayana Frías has reflected on his side's elimination from the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after losing 1-0 to Nigeria's Flamingos. The South Americans mounted a solid defensive effort but couldn't match Nigeria's attacking prowess throughout the encounter.
The match appeared destined for a penalty shootout until a late spot kick was awarded when defender Migleydys Bolsegui was ruled to have fouled Nigeria's Oluebube Umejiaku. Azeezat Oduntan stepped up and converted the penalty to send the Flamingos through to the semi-finals.
Frías told FIFA his team's downfall came from a single lapse in concentration. "It was a good performance overall, but I think we made one mistake and paid for it," he said.
The coach praised his players for their growth and development during the tournament. "I'm happy to see how much they've grown and how they've developed as footballers throughout the tournament," he added.
Frías remains optimistic about Venezuela's future at youth level, noting that seven squad members remain eligible to compete next year. "I think they're ready to come back and keep growing," he noted.
