Black Maidens assistant coach Bashiru-Deen Sumaila says Ghana are well prepared for their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 encounter against Argentina, expressing confidence that the team can progress to the quarter-finals.
Sumaila said the technical team had used the lessons from Ghana’s opening matches to improve the team’s tactical approach ahead of the knockout fixture.
According to him, the 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening Group C match served as a wake-up call for both the players and the technical staff.
He admitted that Ghana created opportunities against Norway but failed to convert their chances, prompting the coaches to place greater emphasis on finishing and decision-making in the final third.
The Black Maidens responded strongly in their subsequent match against Canada, securing a 2-0 victory to book their place in the knockout stage.
Sumaila credited the result to hard work and tactical adjustments, adding that the team had since intensified preparations for the Argentina clash.
He revealed that the technical team had conducted video analysis sessions to familiarise the players with Argentina’s strengths and identify areas Ghana could exploit.
“We’ve watched Argentina,” he said, explaining that the players had been briefed on what to expect and the areas requiring particular attention.
The assistant coach stressed the need for concentration, tactical discipline and improved finishing, insisting that the team was ready for the challenge.
“The girls are very poised and ready for the game,” Sumaila said, expressing confidence that Ghana would give their best to secure victory and advance to the quarter-finals.
