Both men's pairs suffer round-of-32 defeats in Tashkent as Salman Abuhamda and Rashed Sanad turn their attention to singles competition
Bahrain's two men's doubles pairs were eliminated from the 29th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Thursday, October 22, following defeats to Malaysia and South Korea in the round of 32.
Salman Abuhamda and Ali Saleh lost 3-1 to Malaysia's Wong Qi Shen and Javen Choong (7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-3), while Rashed Sanad and Mohamed Saleh fell 3-0 to South Korea's Kim Minhyeok and Park Gyuhyeon (12-10, 11-7, 11-2).
Abuhamda and Ali Saleh took the opening game before their Malaysian opponents recovered to win the next three, sealing victory in 26 minutes.
Sanad and Mohamed Saleh also made a competitive start, narrowly losing the first game 12-10, but the South Koreans took control to complete their win in just over 15 minutes.
Both Bahraini pairs had advanced with straight-games victories on Wednesday, overcoming opponents from Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan respectively.
Attention then turned to the men's singles, with Abuhamda and Sanad scheduled to compete for places in the round of 32.
Abuhamda was set to face Singapore's Clarence Chew on Friday at 9.15am Bahrain time, followed by Sanad against South Korea's Kang Dongsoo at 9.45am.
Both players had advanced after winning their opening singles matches, with Abuhamda defeating Saudi Arabia's Salem Alsuwailem 3-0 and Sanad overcoming Thailand's Nawin Mekamporn 3-1.
Bahrain, coached by Ammar Reza, had earlier exited the men's team competition following a 3-0 defeat to Singapore.
The championships are scheduled to conclude on Sunday, October 25.
