Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has announced a significant overhaul of its coaching staff for the upcoming IPL 2027 season, aiming to strengthen its performance after three seasons without playoff qualification. Former India pacer Mohit Sharma steps in as the new bowling coach, while celebrated international cricketers Albie Morkel and Gareth Batty join as assistant coaches, working under head coach Zaheer Khan.

This strategic move sees the departure of long-serving members like Michael Hussey and Eric Simons, with James Foster continuing as fielding coach and Sridharan Sriram retaining his assistant coach role. The appointments signal a fresh direction for the five-time champions.

Mohit Sharma, who began his IPL journey with CSK and won the Purple Cap in 2014, expressed his joy at returning. “It feels like coming back home. CSK was the catalyst for my national career, and I look forward to contributing alongside Zaheer Khan,” he stated. Mohit's experience, including 134 wickets in 120 IPL matches, will be invaluable.

Albie Morkel, a two-time IPL winner with CSK, also shared his excitement. “The Chepauk roar is unforgettable. I have special memories here and am eager to share my knowledge with the youngsters,” said the former South African all-rounder, known for his explosive hitting and crucial contributions.

Gareth Batty, the former England cricketer, completes the new trio. His recent success coaching Surrey to three consecutive County Championship titles (2022-2024) highlights his tactical acumen. “It’s a pleasure to join one of the most respected franchises globally and work with the best minds in the game,” Batty commented. This new coaching lineup is poised to inject fresh energy and expertise into the CSK squad, with fans eagerly anticipating their impact on the upcoming season.
