India complete 3-0 ODI sweep as Zimbabwe Women’s tour ends in defeat

Zimbabwe Women 131 all out (39.5 overs): Mupachikwa 37, Nkomo 35; V Sharma 5-39

India Women 133-2 (17 overs): Rawal 59*, Verma 51*

India Women won by eight wickets and take the series 3-0

India Women finished a one-sided tour in Vadodara with a comfortable eight-wicket win, completing a 3-0 ODI sweep to add to their earlier T20I whitewash.

Zimbabwe chose to bat but never recovered from a wretched start. Loryn Phiri fell for nought and Chipo Mugeri Tiripano for four, leaving them 12-2 in the third over. Beloved Biza, the hero of the opener, managed only one from 16 balls before Vaishnavi Sharma had her caught.

Modester Mupachikwa’s 37 and captain Josephine Nkomo’s 35 from 67 balls offered resistance, but Vaishnavi was relentless. She took 5-39 from her 10 overs, while Sayali Satghare’s miserly 2-11 from six overs choked the scoring. The tourists were all out for 131 in the 40th over.

India made a startling start in reply, losing Yastika Bhatia to Nomvelo Sibanda’s first delivery. Zimbabwe could not build on it.

Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol added 59 before Phiri bowled Deol for 19. Then Shafali Verma took charge, striking 51 from 26 balls with six fours and three sixes. She shared an unbroken stand of 74 with Rawal, who finished on 59 from 56 balls.

India won with 33 overs to spare.

Zimbabwe leave India with plenty to reflect on after six defeats, though Biza’s milestone innings and Mayers’ T20I form hint at a team still developing.
