Liverpool defender Ronald Araujo has revealed how former Reds striker Luis Suarez continues to offer him advice and occasionally 'tell him off'

Liverpool defender Ronald Araujo has opened up on his friendship with former Red Luis Suarez and how his former teammate 'tells him off' after games.

Araujo has enjoyed a strong start to life at Anfield following his loan switch from Barcelona in the summer. While the move initially drew some skepticism from supporters, the 27-year-old has quickly established himself as a fan favorite and many hope the move is made permanent in the summer.

In his 13 appearances across all competitions so far, Araujo has scored two goals and registered one assist. Both of his goals came in the Champions League against LASK and Villarreal, respectively.

Liverpool does, of course, have a strong history with Uruguayan players. Suarez and Sebastian Coates were the first to join in 2011, followed by Darwin Nunez, who was at the club between 2022 and 2025.

Araujo and Suarez are not only former international teammates, but they also played alongside each other at Barcelona before the latter departed in 2020. They remain friends to this day, and Araujo has shared how the 39-year-old continues to mentor him, especially now that he is at Liverpool.

"I have a very good relationship with Lucho," Araujo said in a recent interview with Sky Sports. "He was a legend here, of course.

"We’re always in contact. He has been a very important person in my life and someone I continue to talk to and learn from.

"Sometimes he gives me a little telling off many times, actually. That’s his way of showing affection. He always tells me what he thinks, and that helps me a lot.

"He’s very happy for me for the stage I’m going through and, obviously, for joining this great club."

Suarez currently plays his football in the United States with Inter Miami, where he has been since the beginning of 2024. The forward's deal with the MLS club will expire at the end of this year.

Nunez, meanwhile, departed Liverpool following the Reds' last Premier League title triumph in 2025. He initially joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal but is currently on loan with league rival Al-Diriyah until the end of the season.
