11 pundits react to 'breathless' Hearts vs Hibs clash as duo take acclaim and talks with key ace shared
Here’s how the pundits reacted to a blockbuster Premier Sports Cup semi-final between Hearts and Hibs.
Hibs created history at Hampden Park as they got the better of rivals Hearts in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
Marink Reedijk’s era as Easter Road manager has lift-off after a stirring comeback to defeat the Jambos in Mount Florida for the first time. Martin Boyle and Jamie McGrath goals cancelled out Claudio Braga’s opener for Hearts, who suffered more injury woe, with Calvin Miller and Tomas Magnusson subbed.
Plenty of pundits have been casting their eye over this game, from key players, to what the game could mean longer-term. Hibs progress to December’s final against Rangers and here’s how pundits reacted to the latest Edinburgh derby.
1. Scott Allan (Premier) "They go a goal down but the response after that, I thought they were fantastic in the first half. Used that extra player in the middle of the park. Joe Newell, for me, the decisions he made on the ball through the game, excellent, really good decisions. Hearts come back into the game, they really tried to force the issue, and Hibs had to defend. Defended their box really well at times, and they still looked for threat on the counter. For Marink Reedijk, this is a huge game, and a huge chance for him to build that connection with the Hibs support. He's certainly done that." Photo Sales
2. Allan Preston (Sportsound) "No complaints at all. The better team won. Hibs thoroughly deserve to be in the final. Hibs have got an opportunity now to go to a cup final at the national stadium with a real chance of winning it. Rangers are a good side, but so are Hibs." | SNS Group Photo Sales
3. Martin Boyle (Premier) "Martin Boyle, he just keeps producing, especially on the big stage for Hibs. He's the talisman, it means everything to him, and that's the big thing. His threat is pace in behind and he doesn't seem to have lost that yard yet. As long as he's still performing at a high level, he'll play for as long as possible." | Getty Images Photo Sales
4. Brian Graham (Superscoreboard) "Fair play to Hibs. Obviously Braga gets an early goal for Hearts to put them one in front, but Hibs were very dogged in that first half performance. They get level with a fantastic goal from Martin Boyle. I think the other striker did exceptionally well with the wee turn and the flick, puts Boyle in. Boyle does what Boyle does and scores the goal. Then the second goal for me, I think from a Hearts perspective, is very disappointing." | SNS Group Photo Sales

5. Tam McManus (X) "Messaged Joe Newell this morning & spoke to him tonight after the game. Man bleeds green & white and has been tremendous the last couple games. Loves the Hibs." Photo Sales
6. Charlie Mulgrew (Premier) "We spoke about Boyle and Newell, the disappointment they may face with the captaincy issue. They never looked like they were downing tools or they were disappointed , they worked hard. Newell especially was brilliant, dictated the game in midfield with that extra man, and it's not just about having an extra man, it's about finding the spare man. Whenever he found the ball, he did find that spare man, and that's how they got their first goal, so, Newell, brilliant, Boyle, great goal, and the intensity of Hibs was brilliant." | Getty Images Photo Sales
