Quadri Liameed in stable condition after suffering head injury in Spain

Former Nigeria Under-20 midfielder Quadri Liameed is in a stable condition after losing consciousness following a head injury during CE Sabadell’s Spanish Segunda League match against Albacete.

Liameed, the son of Hajji Gafar, was reportedly unconscious for about 30 seconds after being struck on the head by an opponent’s kick. He has since received medical attention and is expected to undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within the next 48 hours.

His father said doctors in Spain had provided encouraging news about the midfielder’s condition.

“My son is now in a stable condition and is expected to undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within the next 48 hours,” Hajji Gafar said.

“The Spanish medical team attending to him gave me some encouraging news yesterday, and I am relieved and grateful.

“I also intend to travel to Spain within the next 10 days to personally see Quadri, spend some time with him and support him through this recovery process.”

Liameed has built his reputation as a committed and intelligent midfielder, particularly noted for his ability to compete for and win second balls. He has played in midfield since the age of 11 and has been described as a player who works tirelessly and gives everything on the pitch.

His development was influenced by several respected Nigerian coaches, including Manu Garba, Nduka Ugbade and Ladan Bosso. Their guidance helped shape the character and determination that have marked his career.

Liameed was also part of the Nigeria Flying Eagles team that won a silver medal at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco, under coach Paul Aigbogun.

Those qualities have supported his professional career in Spain, where he has played for the past five years.

Hajji Gafar said his son’s resilience had always been clear throughout his football career and expressed confidence that he would recover from the injury.

“Quadri is a strong young man and a true Lion. His fighting spirit has always been evident on the pitch, and we remain confident that he will overcome this difficult moment.”

The 36 Lion Football Club family, the Lagos State football family and the wider Nigerian football community have wished Liameed a smooth and speedy recovery.
