Burnley sack Hayen after Lincoln humiliation

Burnley's latest defeat left them third bottom of the Championship.

Burnley have sacked head coach Nicky Hayen following a 4-1 loss to Lincoln City.

The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season and have made a dismal start on their return to the second tier.

Burnley took the lead at Sincil Bank through Andreas Hountondji, but an equaliser from Ben House, followed by a double from Mikkel Ladefoged, his goals coming either side of a Dom Jefferies effort, secured the points for Lincoln.

That marked Burnley’s sixth defeat of the season, leaving them third bottom in the Championship table with eight points from 12 games.

And Burnley confirmed in a brief statement after the game that Hayen, who only took over in July, had been relieved of his duties.

Burnley host Portsmouth next Saturday.
