Michael Carrick Pays Tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson as Man United Marks 40 Years

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has paid tribute to legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the club celebrates 40 years since his appointment at Old Trafford.

Carrick described Ferguson's contribution to Manchester United as incredible, saying the Scottish football icon left a lasting influence that continues to shape the club.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Aston Villa, Carrick was asked about Ferguson's influence on him both as a player and as a person.

The United manager said the 40th anniversary was an important milestone worth celebrating, considering everything Ferguson achieved during his remarkable time at the club.

He also revealed that his relationship with the legendary manager has grown closer since his playing days, explaining that they now speak more frequently than they did when he was still part of the team.

Carrick explained that Ferguson's influence on him was not limited to direct conversations or personal advice. Instead, he learned from the manager's character, leadership and habits, which left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

The former midfielder also described how their relationship gradually developed into a friendship after his playing career.

Ferguson was appointed Manchester United manager on November 6, 1986, replacing Ron Atkinson. He went on to spend more than 26 years at Old Trafford, becoming one of the most successful managers in football history.

During his time in charge, Ferguson guided Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two UEFA Champions League trophies. He also led the club to its historic 1999 treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season.

He retired from management in 2013 after helping United win their 20th English league title.

Carrick spent seven seasons playing under Ferguson at Manchester United, winning several major honours during their time together.

His latest remarks offer a glimpse into the personal relationship between the two men and underline the influence Ferguson continues to have at the club, four decades after his arrival.
