Aston Villa defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday, October 24, 2026, as Nicolas Jackson scored twice to end City’s perfect start to the Premier League season.
According to Reuters and the clubs’ official match reports, the Senegalese forward scored in the sixth and 60th minutes, securing three important points for Unai Emery’s side. Erling Haaland scored Manchester City’s only goal in the second half.
Jackson opened the scoring after capitalising on a defensive mistake by City defender Marc Guehi. Villa captain John McGinn seized possession and set up Jackson, who finished to give the hosts an early advantage.
Manchester City created several opportunities to equalise during the first half, but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made important saves. Iliman Ndiaye also struck the post as the visitors searched for a breakthrough.
City eventually levelled the score in the 52nd minute when Haaland headed in a cross from Ndiaye. The goal briefly restored hope for the visitors, who had won their opening seven league matches of the campaign.
However, Villa regained the lead eight minutes later. Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye delivered the ball into Jackson’s path, and the striker fired towards goal. The shot slipped beneath goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and crossed the line, giving Villa a 2-1 advantage.
Manchester City pushed for another equaliser during the closing stages. Haaland came close to scoring again, but Ian Maatsen cleared a goal-bound header as Villa defended their lead.
According to Reuters, the result ended City’s seven-match winning run in the league and left them on 21 points. Aston Villa climbed to sixth place with 11 points, earning their first home league victory of the season.
The victory also extended Villa’s winning run against Manchester City in the Premier League to three consecutive matches.
Jackson’s decisive performance highlighted Villa’s ability to punish defensive mistakes, while City were left to reflect on missed opportunities after suffering their first league defeat of the campaign.
