AFC Leopards returned to winning ways in the FKF Premier League after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in the Ingo Derby at Wang’uru Stadium on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The victory gave Fred Ambani’s side their second league win of the 2026/27 campaign and ended a frustrating run in front of goal. Ingwe had scored only twice in their opening four matches, making the derby an important test of their attacking strength.
Defender Emmanuel Lwangu opened the scoring towards the end of the first half after connecting with a delivery from winger James Kinyanjui. Lwangu rose above the Homeboyz defence to head the ball into the net, giving Leopards an advantage after a closely contested opening period.
The goal continued Lwangu’s impressive record against Kakamega Homeboyz, having also scored against the same opponents in their previous league meeting. Homeboyz, coached by Edward Manoah, attempted to respond before the break but struggled to find a way past the Leopards defence.
Ambani’s tactical changes helped Ingwe maintain their momentum after the restart. Kinyanjui, who had provided the assist for the opening goal, later found space inside the penalty area and calmly finished to extend the lead to 2-0.
Homeboyz could not recover from the second goal as Leopards protected their advantage until the final whistle. The result also ended the visitors’ hopes of taking points from the derby, handing Ingwe an important victory in front of their supporters.
Before Sunday’s match, Leopards had recorded two goalless home draws against Bandari and Shabana. They had also beaten Kenya Police FC in their other previous victory, while three draws had kept them from making a stronger start to the season.
The result gives AFC Leopards renewed confidence as the league campaign continues, while their improved scoring provides a positive sign for Ambani’s attacking plans.
