Manchester United delivered an impressive performance at Old Trafford, coming from two goals behind to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over AS Roma in their UEFA Champions League Matchday 4 encounter.
The result was an important boost for Michael Carrick's team, who had reportedly endured nine consecutive matches without a victory. United showed determination and character to turn around a difficult situation and collect three valuable points.
Roma initially took control of the encounter, silencing the home supporters with two quick goals. Matías Soulé gave the Italian side the lead in the 11th minute before Donyell Malen extended their advantage from the penalty spot six minutes later.
United struggled to create meaningful opportunities before halftime, leaving themselves with a mountain to climb after the break.
However, the hosts returned with a different attitude and gradually increased their attacking pressure. Their comeback began in the 58th minute when Bruno Fernandes converted a retaken penalty after his first effort had been saved.
The goal inspired United to push forward, and their persistence eventually paid off through Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian restored parity in the 83rd minute after taking advantage of a defensive error involving Leonardo Balerdi.
Cunha then completed United's remarkable turnaround just three minutes later, finding the back of the net with a powerful near-post finish following an assist from Shea Lacey.
The celebrations were briefly interrupted when Cunha received a second yellow card in stoppage time, forcing United to defend their advantage with ten players.
Despite the late dismissal, United successfully protected their lead.
The victory moved them to 17th position with six points from four matches, keeping them inside the knockout play-off places. Roma remained on four points.
United will now focus on their next Champions League fixture, although Cunha's reported suspension could complicate Carrick's preparations.
