Shabana against Mombasa United
Shabana FC climbed to fourth in the FKF Premier League standings after edging Mombasa United 3-2 in an entertaining encounter in Mombasa.
Shabana looked comfortable after taking a two-goal advantage through Brian Ogutu and Kevin Omundi, but Mombasa fought back to level matters before Derrick Oketch struck late to secure all three points for the visitors.
Mombasa started brightly, using the pace of Laban Otieno and Rodgers Oporia on the wings to trouble Shabana's defence. However, the hosts struggled to turn their early pressure into goals.
Shabana gradually settled and took control of the midfield through Omundi and Biron Otieno before breaking the deadlock in the 44th minute. Ogutu reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
Omundi extended Shabana's advantage in the 59th minute, connecting with a pass from Brian Michira to put the Glamour Boys in a commanding position.
However, Mombasa refused to surrender. Dennis Mabeya converted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Adeyemi Mogbedemu was brought down inside the area.
The comeback was completed in the 81st minute when Junior Shentembo rose highest to head home from a corner, sending the home supporters into celebration.
Their joy was short-lived, though, as substitute Oketch restored Shabana's lead just two minutes later to hand the visitors a crucial victory.
The result lifted Shabana to fourth with nine points, while Mombasa remained bottom with just one point.
Mara Sugar end Migori Youth's unbeaten start
Mara Sugar continued their encouraging start to the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Migori Youth at William Ole Ntimama Stadium, handing the visitors their first defeat of the season.
Alex Imbusia gave the hosts an early advantage inside the opening two minutes, finishing a delivery from Drona Openda after controlling the ball inside the area.
Migori responded positively and drew level in the 19th minute through Philemon Nyakwaka, who converted a penalty after a handball in the Mara box.
The forward, who previously played for Mara, sent goalkeeper Joseph Ogenda the wrong way to restore parity.
The hosts regained the lead in the 33rd minute when Victor Ngume rose above his marker to head home after Godrick Kaduka picked him out with a delivery.
Migori pushed for another equaliser after the break, with Nyakwaka, Elly Owande and substitute Christopher Koloti all getting opportunities to bring their side back into the contest.
However, Mara remained organised defensively, and goalkeeper Ogenda made important interventions to protect their advantage.
Migori missed a particularly good opportunity with 10 minutes remaining when Koloti found himself one-on-one with Ogenda but fired over the crossbar.
Mara held on to collect their second win of the campaign, moving to fifth with nine points, while Migori dropped to 10th after their unbeaten start came to an end.
Ikara saves Leopards as 3K FC hold Ingwe
AFC Leopards missed the opportunity to put pressure on the teams above them after settling for a goalless draw against 3K FC at Moi Stadium in Embu.
The hosts started with greater urgency and nearly scored inside the opening minute when Cameroonian forward Sally Ali Yipoh struck the crossbar.
Yipoh continued to trouble the Leopards defence and later created an opportunity for Danstan Barasa, who failed to hit the target.
Ingwe gradually found their footing, with Fredrick Alushula and Tyson Otieno testing 3K goalkeeper Edwin Simiyu, who made important saves to keep the scores level.
The biggest moment of the match came in the 55th minute when 3K were awarded a penalty after Glen Kariuki was brought down inside the box.
Kariuki stepped up to take the spot-kick but was denied by Leopards goalkeeper Tom Ikara, who produced an important save to preserve the visitors' clean sheet.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but neither could find the breakthrough.
The draw left AFC Leopards third with 10 points, three behind leaders KCB FC, while 3K FC moved to sixth with nine points.
