The 2026/27 SportPesa Premier League season enters round six this weekend with plenty of mouthwatering fixtures to look forward to.
Record Kenyan league winners Gor Mahia had pulled away in the lead but suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to KCB last weekend.
Charles Akonnor’s side have amassed 12 points from their opening five games, aiming to reclaim the title from last season’s winners Kenya Police FC.
Their eternal rivals AFC Leopards, Police and KCB have formed a close pack behind the league leaders as they seek to set the tone for the rest of the season.
Newly promoted 3K FC have emerged as the early surprise package, with eight points from five games, leaving them in fifth place on the log.
At the foot of the table, Mombasa United remain rooted to the bottom with just one point to their name after five matches.
Above them sits four sides all on four points, seeking positive results this weekend to put some distance between them and the relegation zone.
Robert Matano’s KCB kicks off round six with a match against APS Bomet on Friday at the Police Sacco Stadium from 4PM.
With all teams in action this weekend, we have a look at some of the top games lined up and offer our predicted outcome.
The newcomers are bottom of the table with just one point from five matches, while Shabana are in 10th place with six points.
Mombasa, who were promoted following a dramatic two-legged playoff against Kariobangi Sharks, have lost four of their five matches and have scored only twice.
Shabana have also struggled for goals, scoring just twice in five games, but their defence has been much stronger, conceding only two.
After three successive draws, Shabana lost 1-0 to Police in their last outing, and are now without a win in their last four games.
Despite their recent struggles in front of goal, Shabana enter the match as favorites and have a slight edge over their opponents.
Prediction – Shabana to win or draw (X2)
This is arguably the most intriguing fixture of the weekend as third-placed AFC Leopards travel to face fifth-placed 3K FC, with just one point separating the teams.
A win for 3K would take them to 11 points, while victory for Leopards would lift Ingwe to 12 points and level them with Gor Mahia at the top of the standings.
Leopards, who have not won a league title since 1998, are one of the two teams that are still unbeaten in the 2026/27 SportPesa League season.
3K have lost just once in their opening five matches and are coming off an emphatic 2-1 comeback victory against Posta Rangers.
Leopards have been hit by two major injuries, with Samwel Semo and Eric Balecho expected to be sidelined after sustaining different injuries that will keep them out of action.
The home team have scored seven goals already this season, but they face the strongest defense in the league – conceding just one goal so far.
Prediction – Over 1.5 goals
Bandari will be hoping home advantage can finally produce their first win of the season when they host Tusker.
The dockers have four points from five matches but are still searching for their first victory, having drawn four and lost one.
Tusker, meanwhile, have six points from only three matches and have won two of those games.
The home team completed the league double over the brewers last season and are confident they can get something from this crucial test.
The head-to-head favours Bandari, but current form strongly favours Tusker as we gear up for what could be a cracker of an encounter.
Prediction – Bandari to win or draw (1X)
Murang’a are looking to make it three games unbeaten when they host Ulinzi on Sunday afternoon.
The home team come into the game in sixth place with seven points, two more than 13th place Ulinzi.
The soldiers got their first win of the season last weekend, beating Mathare United 2-1, while Murang’a were held in a barren draw by APS Bomet.
Murang’a have scored 11 goals in five matches, making them one of the league’s most productive attacking sides. They have also conceded nine.
Josphat Lopaga currently leads the SportPesa League scoring charts with a remarkable six goals in five matches.
Ulinzi have found it hard to find the back of the net, scoring just three goals so far, and this could be their Achilles heel here.
Prediction – Murang’a to win
The defending champions will be looking to respond immediately after suffering their first league defeat of the season.
Gor remain top of the table on 12 points, having won four of their first five matches. Their only setback came last weekend when KCB defeated them 2-1.
Nairobi United, meanwhile, are 14th with four points and are still searching for their first league victory of the campaign.
The Nai Boys have been boosted by the announcement of a new major sponsorship deal that should change their fortunes in the new season.
Despite only losing once, Nairobi United have drawn four games, raising some concerns regarding their attacking prowess in recent matches.
Interestingly, Gor have not managed to beat Nairobi United in the league in two attempts, losing once and sharing the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate in the return fixture.
Prediction – Gor Mahia to win
