KCB FC pulled off a crucial 2–1 victory over defending champions Gor Mahia in an action-packed FKF Premier League Matchday 5 encounter staged at the Moi Stadium in Embu on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The Bankers delivered a clinical away performance to hand K’Ogalo their first setback of the 2026/27 league campaign, bringing an abrupt halt to the champions’ flawless four-match winning streak.

Matano ends Gor’s fine start

Robert Matano’s tactical setup paid off early as KCB absorbed Gor Mahia’s aggressive opening pressure before striking efficiently on the counter. The

Bankers broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when former Shabana FC forward Assis Mambote capitalised on space left behind Gor Mahia’s high defensive line to slot past the keeper.

Just nine minutes later, KCB stunned the reigning champions again. Francis Omondi finished off another swift attacking move to double the Bankers’ advantage, sending his side into the halftime break with a commanding 2–0 lead.

Facing a two-goal deficit, Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor responded with immediate tactical adjustments. Seeking more attacking impetus, Akonnor brought on Jackson Dwang and Shariff Musa. Shortly after the restart, K’Ogalo found a route back into the contest when KCB defender Joshua Onyango conceded a penalty inside the area. Midfielder Alpha Onyango stepped up and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to reduce the deficit to 2–1.

Gor Mahia relentlessly pushed forward in search of an equalizer, forcing KCB to defend deep in their own half.

Akonnor made further attacking changes, summoning Sylvester Owino and Ebenezer Assifuah from the bench to replace Patrice Essombe and Lesley Otieno. Despite a tense finishing period and sustained stoppage-time pressure from the champions, KCB’s backline held firm to secure all three points.

Ingwe pick win in Mwea

Elsewhere on Sunday, AFC Leopards also enjoyed a successful outing in Kirinyaga County, breaking their early-season goal drought with a comfortable 2–0 Ingo Derby win over regional rivals Kakamega Homeboyz at Wang’uru Stadium.
