Funny fact! Did you see Mikel Arteta in the 96th minute, asking the referee to end the Arsenal vs Liverpool game? The camera caught him raising his hands as if to say, What are you waiting for? Just blow the final whistle!
I’m sure Arteta was worried that even with 50 seconds left, Liverpool could still score an equalizer. His reaction said it all. It looked like he had stopped trusting his own players and had transferred all his hope to the referee to finish the game!
You're free to disagree with this, but here's my take on the Alexander Isak and Timber foul incident in tonight's game against Arsenal at Anfield.
Having watched the incident, I think Liverpool had a legitimate reason to feel aggrieved because Timber clearly appeared to pull Isak's shirt as he tried to get to the ball inside the penalty area.
For me, that was enough contact to warrant a penalty, and I struggle to understand why VAR didn't recommend a review.
We have to be consistent with these decisions because if a defender pulls an attacker's shirt inside the box and prevents him from reaching the ball, it cannot simply be ignored.
At the same time, not every bit of contact should result in a penalty, and referees must consider whether it actually affects the attacker's ability to play the ball.
But in this particular incident, I believe Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty. You can support Arsenal and still admit that the officials got this one wrong.
