Robin van Persie to accept club return as new manager

Robin van Persie gave Manchester United fans unforgettable memories, winning the Golden Boot in their 2012/13 title-winning season.

Robin van Persie to accept club return as new manager

Robin van Persie remains one of Manchester United’s most unforgettable modern strikers, having delivered Sir Alex Ferguson’s final Premier League title in extraordinary fashion.

The Dutchman arrived from Arsenal in 2012 for £24 million, determined to win the trophy that had eluded him throughout his career.

His impact was immediate.

Van Persie scored 26 Premier League goals during his debut campaign, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

However, his defining moment arrived against Aston Villa in April 2013.

The striker scored a sensational first-half hat-trick, including an outrageous volley from Wayne Rooney’s long pass, securing United’s 20th league title.

Ferguson retired weeks later, making Van Persie’s contribution even more significant.

After leaving Old Trafford in 2015, the Dutchman eventually returned to his homeland before beginning a managerial career.

He took charge of Heerenveen in 2024 before returning to Feyenoord the following year.

Despite securing Champions League qualification, Van Persie was dismissed in June 2026 after finishing 19 points behind PSV Eindhoven.

Feyenoord’s hierarchy subsequently revealed that extensive performance analysis, rather than one disappointing result, prompted his dismissal.

Now, the former United favourite could be preparing for another emotional return to management.

Robin van Persie open to managerial return

According to Dutch outlet Soccernews, Van Persie would be willing to accept an offer to become Fenerbahce’s new manager.

The 43-year-old previously represented the Turkish giants between 2015 and 2018, scoring 36 goals across his spell in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce are searching for a permanent replacement for Ismail Kartal, who resigned following Monday’s 2-1 derby defeat against Galatasaray.

Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has been appointed interim manager while the club considers its options.

The squad includes former Manchester United attackers Mason Greenwood and Romelu Lukaku, creating the possibility of an extraordinary Old Trafford reunion.

Greenwood has registered four league goals and two assists this season, although Fenerbahce sit fifth in the Turkish Super Lig.

Van Persie’s potential appointment would also reunite him with Kuyt, his former Netherlands international teammate.

However, no formal offer or agreement has been confirmed, with the report suggesting Van Persie would accept the opportunity if approached.
