Matteo Marcenaro has been assigned to the game between AC Milan and Udinese on Sunday evening, which will be his fourth game involving the Rossoneri.
Milan are in a rather tough spot at the moment. In addition to suffering the heavy 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth mid-week, more players have been added to the injury list: Mario Gila, Adrien Rabiot and Diego Moreira.
These are three key players for Ruben Amorim and the fact that he won’t have them at his disposal tomorrow is a huge blow. The pressure is certainly on to bounce back with a win, so there could potentially be some heated moments for the referee to handle.
AIA have confirmed that Matteo Marcenaro will be the head referee, while Ivano Pezzuto will be in charge of VAR. For Marcenaro, it will be his fourth game involving the Rossoneri and it’s a chance for the latter to improve the current record: one win and two draws.
The most recent game was Milan’s 2-2 draw against Lazio, in which Diego Moreira scored a brace off the bench after a really poor first half. There was no controversial decisions to note in that one, but the same cannot be said for the game before that.
It was in the 1-0 win against Bologna (October 2025) that Milan were denied a clear penalty after Christopher Nkunku was brought down several times.
Everyone agreed afterwards that the referee and VAR made a mistake, especially since the penalty was first awarded and then he was asked to check it, resulting in it being revoked. Let’s hope we don’t see more of that tomorrow.
