Liverpool player makes ‘weird’ admission about Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool could do with a new right-back in 2027, and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s continued struggles at Real Madrid have thrown up the possibility of the Scouser returning home, two years after leaving his boyhood club.

With Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley out injured and Ronald Araujo simply a stop-gap measure, the Reds could do with having Alexander-Arnold back.

Reports that Trent could re-join Liverpool have been shot down in recent days, however, with the 28-year-old still fully focused on succeeding at Madrid. This weekend he and his teammates will face Harvey Elliott‘s Valencia, and the on-loan Reds player has admitted that it will be strange to face someone he knows so well.

Neither Elliott nor Alexander-Arnold are likely to start for their respective teams at Mestalla on Saturday evening, but both will be hoping to get on the pitch at some stage of the match.

Either way, Elliott has admitted that it will be ‘weird’ to come up against his former Liverpool teammate, as well as Ibrahima Konate, who has started 10 of Madrid’s 11 La Liga matches so far.

“I spoke to him [Trent] a little bit, yeah, but I wouldn’t really say it was advice,” the 23-year-old told SportyTV.

“It’s a weird situation because now we’re going to be playing against each other, not only Trent, Ibrahima Konate as well, another one that was my teammate. So, it’s going to be weird seeing them on the opposite side.”

“With these guys, I’ve grown up with them, I’ve played alongside them and, you know, they were my teammates, so, I wish them nothing but the very best and success in their career and their life.

“But at the same time we’re going to be against each other, so I think the friendship can’t really get ahead of the task that needs to happen and after the game we can see each other and speak then, but when we step on the pitch it’s just fully focused on what we need to do and I think it’s going to be on both sides. We’re fighting against each other now.”

Elliott will be hoping to bounce back after picking up a red card and subsequently missing Valencia’s last match, while Alexander-Arnold should be aiming to build on a good outing last time out in the league against Racing Santander.
