Liverpool are potentially still on the lookout for a new wide forward to join the club in 2027, having parked the idea over the summer.
The Reds pushed to sign Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr during the latter stages of the window, with Cody Gakpo ready to be sold to Manchester City had one of the deals gone through.
Gakpo has been in good form since his move to City hit the buffers, and Andoni Iraola may ultimately decide to keep the Dutchman, removing the need for a new addition. If Liverpool do still want to make a signing for the right wing, though, the dream target would surely be Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise.
Liverpool have been linked with Olise many times over recent times, with the Frenchman’s future in Germany not seen as being completely secure. If he does leave Bayern, the Reds would likely join Real Madrid in pursuing him, but according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Olise is now going to be offered a new deal by the German champions.
Bayern have been busy this week, securing the future of Harry Kane on what is reportedly the highest base salary in the whole of European football.
Olise and Kane are arguably Vincent Kompany’s two most important players, and Romano says that having tied the Ballon d’Or winner to a long-term contract, Bayern will now focus their attention on the former Crystal Palace star.
“Bayern’s next mission after extending Harry Kane’s contract, will also be to extend the contract of Michael Olise, get a new deal done,” the transfer expert told his YouTube channel.
“It’s a clear mission for Bayern. They already had some conversations last summer to start telling Michael Olise and his camp that they want to get a new deal done. The full focus was on Harry Kane now, but Bayern are not forgetting Olise. They want to give him a better salary, a longer contract. It’s not a huge topic because the contract is still very long, but Bayern also want Olise to stay.”
Romano also touched on the potential of an exit for Olise, but reported that Bayern are trying to get ahead of interest and keep the France international on their books.
“They are also very well aware of the appreciation of Michael Olise from Florentino Perez and Real Madrid,” he said.
“They had him very high in their thoughts during the summer, they even made a bid, but Bayern closed all the doors, they were not even considering an exit. Bayern want to stop all future attempts by agreeing a new contract.”
If Real Madrid cannot prise Olise out of Bayern, then it seems highly unlikely that Liverpool will be able to either. The 24-year-old would be a super addition at Anfield, but this one seems like it’s getting further away from becoming reality.
