According to a report by Football London on Monday, October 26, 2026, Chelsea are reportedly considering allowing Kendry Paez to leave the club following two disappointing loan spells, raising further doubts about his chances of becoming a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge.
The Ecuadorian attacker arrived at Chelsea alongside fellow young talent Estevao Willian, with both players expected to have bright futures at the club. However, Paez has yet to make a senior appearance for Chelsea, and his prospects under manager Xabi Alonso appear increasingly uncertain.
Concerns about the 19-year-old's future have intensified since he returned to Chelsea in the summer. Rather than joining the senior squad, he was moved down to the Under-21 team, leaving questions about his development and standing within the club.
According to Bolavip, Chelsea have received unfavourable feedback from the Under-21 coaching staff regarding Paez's performances and progress. As a result, the club could consider either selling him permanently or arranging another loan move during the January transfer window.
Despite these concerns, Paez recently showed signs of improvement by providing an assist in a match against Liverpool's Under-21 side. He also received 57 per cent of the votes in Sofascore's Man of the Match poll, suggesting that some supporters remain encouraged by his performances.
Reports have also suggested that the youngster is unhappy with his current situation and could be open to leaving Chelsea when the January transfer window opens.
His uncertain future has been further complicated by his disappointing experiences during previous loan spells. In 2025, Paez joined Strasbourg temporarily, making 21 appearances and scoring once before the arrangement was terminated early.
During his time in France, opportunities to establish himself in Ligue 1 were limited, as he started only four of his 15 league appearances. Reports from L'Équipe also raised concerns about his lifestyle, professionalism and the support available to him during his spell at the club.
His subsequent loan move to Argentine giants River Plate also failed to deliver the expected results. Although the original arrangement was intended to last two years, Paez returned to Chelsea ahead of schedule after making just 14 appearances.
Argentine journalist Renzo Pantich further reported that River Plate had concerns about the teenager's behaviour both on and off the pitch, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his development.
With both loan spells ending prematurely, Chelsea now face an important decision about the youngster's future. Another temporary move remains a possibility, potentially allowing him to continue his development at a different English club.
However, if Paez fails to demonstrate consistent improvement and meet the club's expectations, Chelsea could decide to sell him permanently and focus on other promising young attacking players within their ranks.
